Interloper The Askirti Chronicles Danny A Brown Books

I know, I know. Ho hum. Another Space Opera. Not quite. This is a very well crafted book. The characters are engaging. The universe is well developed, consistent and feels real. The plot is not heavy handed, although it is easy to foresee in some places.
All in all the book kept my attention all the way thru. No Ho Hum!
So, let's see what the next one does. I have high hopes, Mr. Brown!

Interloper The Askirti Chronicles Danny A Brown Books Reviews

The story has great characters, a decent plot, and lots of action - with damn little fluff! Just what one needs when relaxing with a good book. More please!
Unfortunately, from the get-go, it was readily apparent that "Interloper The Askirti Chronicles-Book 1," is a poorly written, amateurish, and not designed for adult reading. The story appears geared to young teens and pre-teens. It reads as if an older teenage babysitter wrote it as a bedtime story for her charges.

There are muddled, nearly Illiterate sentence structures abounding. The heroine is very white, and her C.O. is dark black, both rare skin tones in future humanity, according to the author. What skin tone everyone else has, is left unstated. The author is apparently a fan of the old "Seinfeld," television show, as he uses exclamation points to excess, as did the Elaine character's boyfriend in an episode.

Frankly, it was all so very, very bad, that this reviewer, contrary to the usual m.o. of plowing deep into a book before giving up, bailed at 5%.

"Interloper," is NOT recommended and was accessed via Unlimited.
I had mixed feelings about this book. It's generally pretty well written, although the dialogue feels stilted sometimes, and at one point, technology they had 2 chapters earlier suddenly no longer exists, so it could definitely use more polish, but especially as a first novel, I've seen much worse.
The story does tend towards bleak, which may not be a bad thing for some, but wasn't quite to my tastes.
Probably the biggest problem I had, though, was while the magic/genemod/nanotech powers Jackie has are frequently treading the line of ridiculous, at the final battle they jump way over that line and keep going. It was very deus ex machina, and made nearly all the sacrifices and strategies of the battle up to that point irrelevant.
Loved your book. Part way through book two. Wish i could wrire as well as you.
Tell Katrina Santa Claus says hi.
